What is this, anyway?
This is an art scavenger hunt happening on August 4th, 2025 in Richmond and Central Virginia – basically, anywhere covered by the 804 area code (more or less)
Who’s organizing this event?
We are two artists in Richmond, VA who were inspired by the Game of Shrooms event to create a more locally-focused event along the same lines.

Everyone! No, really!
How do I participate as an artist?
- Message us on Instagram as soon as you decide, and let us know that you want to participate!
- Leading up to the event, post clues on your social media account(s) for what you’re making and where you’ll be hiding
- On the actual day, hide your piece(s) somewhere in the 804 area of Central Virginia, and give information about where to find it.
- Tag all your posts on social media with these hashtags: #804artdrop #804artdrop2025 #rvaartdrop2025
- Put your social media account information on the back of your art or otherwise attached to your art, along with a link to this website so that the person who finds it can play along!
Can I use AI-generated art?
Ew, no. Please don’t.
How many pieces can I hide?
As many as you want!
What is the theme I should work with?
Really anything to do with Richmond and Central Virginia. It’s verrrrrry open to interpretation! We have some ideas listed here to help spark inspiration.
When do I hide my art?
Starting on Monday August 4th, 2025 between 12:01 am. until 11:59 pm.
Where do I hide my piece(s)?
We encourage that you leave clues and tips to friends/fans before the event. Hide near landmarks. Don’t make it too hard to find. Or too easy! Some of the best hiding spots are in plain site!
Don’t hurt landmarks, trees, buildings, etc. This is a respectful event so let’s not be jerks, okay?
All that being said, heads up that sometimes folks find work but don’t tell the artist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Can I hide my art inside a store?
Heck yeah! Find a nice friendly store (preferably locally owned!), and you should probably give the people working there a heads up about what you’re doing too. 🙂
What if no one finds my piece?
They probably will find it! Especially if given clues and it is an original work. But, if they don’t find it within a day, it’s your responsibility to go back and grab the hidden art if they don’t.
Remember, this is a “Leave No Trace” event!

How do I participate in the scavenger hunt part?
Leading up to August 4th, look at the participating social media accounts for participating artists. We will be featuring artists leading up to the event and re-posting clues on our Instagram account so make sure to follow us there!
On the actual day, artists will hide their pieces and post about where they are located.
What do I do when I find a piece of art?
Do a little happy victory dance (optional but highly recommended)
Post on social media and tag the artist (so that they can update their information for other potential searchers)
Also tag the 804 Art Drop Instagram account and use the hashtags #804artdrop #804artdrop2025 #rvaartdrop2025 so that we can update our account!
